Migración Centroamericana y Caribeña a Chicago, los casos de los países del “Triángulo del Norte” y República Dominicana Parte II*

Resumen

Partiendo de la información demográfica, cuantitativa y estadística disponible para los últimos años, se analizan las características del crecimiento y composición de la población latina en EE.UU., particularmente en Chicago. Se hace un recuento de las causas políticas que han provocado la expulsión de migrantes de los países del Triángulo del Norte hacia EE.UU., como la inestabilidad, corrupción, persecuciones y violencia desatada por la proliferación de las pandillas; y, en el caso de la República Dominicana, de las causas de carácter económico. Se describen las políticas de EE.UU. y México de los últimos gobiernos que han tenido como finalidad aliviar la situación de crisis centroamericana, prevenir y detener el flujo migratorio de centroamericanos hacia EE.UU. Se explican las cualidades que presenta la zona metropolitana de Chicago para la migración internacional, particularmente para la latinoamericana y se presenta un panorama demográfico de la presencia latinoamericana en Chicago, particularmente de los provenientes de El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala y República Dominicana, así como uno histórico de su presencia en la ciudad.
