During the first 4 decades of the 20th century, there were no significant structural changes in Cotuí, the actions that denoted a certain evolution were isolated. Society rested on its empirical knowledge. The social status was given by the surname. The Ramos, Sánchez, Agramonte, Moya and Cambero families owned the largest amount of land. They controlled the social and economic life of the municipality.
