The idea of the panantillanism or, the projected union of all the Antilles did not originate in Puerto Rico, nor is it indebted to Ramón Emeterio Betances, nor to Martí or Máximo Gómez, but it sprouted in Santo Domingo, with Gregorio Luperón, in 1864.
