Abstract

When the Europeans came into contact with the island of Haiti, named by the chronicler Martir de Anglería, Quisqueya, and by Christopher Columbus, Hispaniola, the island had a population of at least 200 thousand aborigines, predominantly of the Taino ethnic group.
