Abstract

Moustaches contest as a persuasive propaganda strategy and of resistance against the American intervention (1916- 1924) in the Fémina magazine 2019 commemorates 80 years of the publication of the last issue of the magazine Fémina, which circulated in the Dominican Republic between 1922 and 1939, is commemorated. This feminist media constitutes the agora of the scriptural practice of the women who acted for the equality before the law and obtaining the female vote. Also, driven by an editorial line created by the normal teacher and journalist Petronila Angélica Gómez, they developed mobilizations to vindicate their rights, defend national sovereignty, advocate for the protection of children and for the moral rescue of men. One of these campaigns took place during the US intervention, which occurred in the country between 1916-1924, and during which the occupation government imposed a ban on men wearing their mustaches. The management team of the magazine Fémina put into practice, in a brave and creative way, the defense of the male aesthetic identity.
