Abstract

Hispaniola by the Spanish empire, with its headquarters in Madrid. What drove the Bachelor Núñez de Cáceres to give the coup was to prevent the success of a unity movement with Haiti that began in the northern border area, which had the objective to get President Boyer to abolish slavery in Santo Domingo and lift out the poverty the people were immersed. The success of the union of Haiti movement would have meant the immediate abolition of slavery, as most were former slaves, the system of slavery would not have been allowed in a territory of this country. Boyer took advantage of the Dominican-Spanish becoming independent to occupy the eastern part of the island. [J. J. D.]
