Abstract

In this essay on Eugenio María de Hostos´ work we will carry out an unusual analysis. Firstly, around his conception of history as science. Secondly, in relation to his vision of the 19th century Dominican society, a community in which he was a leading actor in his material, cultural, educational, moral, and spiritual evolution. That said, in this essay you will not find a complacent perspective with the Dominican-Puerto Rican teacher's thinking about the nineteenth-century Dominican society, but an objective and critical heuristic and hermeneutical perspective, in tune with the advances of the social sciences, history and anthropology of the last centuries, although contextualizing it in his time and based on the conceptions he assumed at that time.
