Abstract

The oidor Pedro Catani arrived in Santo Domingo in 1784, coming from Santa Fe de Bogotá, from whose Audiencia he was transferred. He was born in 1739 in Catalonia, and received the title as a lawyer in the Court of that kingdom, after having graduated as a doctor of law at the University of Barcelona. He held various lower positions in the judiciary of Catalonia and was appointed judge in the Audiencia of Santa Fe, in 1778. After six years of service, the events that led to the rebellion of the New Kingdom of Granada in 1782, in whose pacification he had special This oidor's participation was the reason for his presence to be disturbing to the new viceroy archbishop.
