Abstract

The purpose of historiography is to explore the conceptions of history, the practices, and ways of doing of historians. In that order, in this article we have proposed to analyze the links between commitment and objectivity in the Dominican historiography, observing how historians questioned the past, see their objects of study, origins, perspectives, ideologies, among others. For such purposes, we rely on the study “Dominican Historiography” prepared by Dr. Roberto Cassá, since it was necessary to develop an overview of historical research in the country seeking to demonstrate how this discipline was formed over time and in relation to time. Finally, we delve into current and future perspectives on History for a better understanding of our craft that aims to shed light on our relationship to the past, and particularly (on how the past relates) to our present.
