The political and doctrinal action of Américo Lugo is the most important fact in the Dominican political and cultural history of the first fifty years of the 20th century. In the country there was no more celebrated writer or master of politics of greater prestige. His stature grew during the US military intervention of 1916-1924. During that tragic period, Lugo's preaching and struggles became the greatest bastion of defense of sovereignty.
