Abstract

This month of January 1995 commemorates a new anniversary of Juan Pablo Duarte and José Martí´s birthdays, the incarnation of the purest Antilleanness. I bring the combative voice of Puerto Rico - 500 years of unabated colonialism - to speak of two heroes: Máximo Gómez and José Martí and of the significance of the centennial of the Montecristi Manifesto. For what they did we are here today and for what we have to do. I have not come to discover Máximo Gómez or José Martí, but to fertilize, together with you, the seed they sowed
