The subject that I will tackle is hardly known, controversial in excess and very extensive. That is why I will try, in the pages that follow, to develop some aspects that may serve to reflect on it, starting with a brief profile of Luperón that helps to better understand his life and political trajectory. Gregorio Luperón was born in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, on September 8, 1839.
