Abstract

Manuel Núñez had the idea from the beginning that the book El Ocaso de la Nación Dominicana would be polemic. This is how he expresses it in the prologue of 1990: "I predict from now on that this book will be attacked and, perhaps, fought fiercely? "Not because he had prevented his book from being "a thought that does not provoke these stirrings in the spirit" as he says in the prologue to the first edition, but because he had set out to confront the majority of intellectuals and journalists who had set out to dismantle or try to dismantle Trujillo's idea of nation and that was already in itself a deliberately polemical and one might even say unhappy end.
