/ Two Wars, two Islands

Abstract

On October 10, 1868, Cuba's first war of independence began, which would last until 1878, known as the Ten Years War or Great War. A topic widely studied by Cuban historiography; however, there is an aspect that has not always been taken into account: the influence of the war of the Dominican Restoration. The impact that the defeat of the metropolis had on Cuban society on a Caribbean island much smaller, less rich and populated than the largest of the Antilles remains to be known. In the military aspect, the issue is no less interesting since both in the Cuban and Spanish fields, the War of Restoration was present in the background of operations and tactics.
