Having made these clarifications, I will proceed to the development of this work, starting from the following questions: Who was Schomburgk? What did he come to do in the country? What did he think of Samaná and how did he see it? In what ways did he manage to maintain our sovereignty and independence during the period in which he carried out his consular functions in Santo Domingo, from the beginning of 1849 to the middle of 1857?
