Abstract

In the historiographical tradition of the Dominican Republic, slave rebellions have been judged in light of social parameters of the colonial period. In turn, these have been weighted according to supposed cultural matrices, from which a sui-generis social nature would have resulted. Starting from a finding transmitted by the memory of the ruling circles of the early nineteenth century, as part of this elaboration the idea was formed that at all times the slaves would have fully accepted the social order. This constant, for its part, is attributed to the benign nature of slavery, which was not observed only in exceptional situations. Deep down, the slave is absent from the traditionalist relationship near the colony.
