Beginning in the second half of the 18th century, the Spanish crown took concrete steps with the intention of exercising a greater political and fiscal control over its American colonies. Such steps were felt through specific processes in the varied American geography. They concurred in them also long-term socio-economic and demographic changes preparations that became visible during this same century.
